Privacy Policy for WaitBuddy

WaitBuddy (“we,” “our,” or “the App”) is designed to help commuters quickly communicate with a commute friend when running late, manage commute reminders, record optional voice notes, and receive post-ride check-ins.

We respect your privacy and aim to collect and process only the information required to provide and improve the App.

1. Information You Provide

WaitBuddy may allow you to enter information such as:

  • Your name
  • Your commute friend’s name
  • Your commute friend’s phone or WhatsApp number
  • Your usual pickup time
  • Reminder preferences
  • Post-ride check-in preferences
  • Custom message templates
  • Locally saved alert history
  • Voice notes that you choose to record

This information is primarily stored locally on your device.

WaitBuddy does not require you to create an account to use its main features.

2. Commute Friend Information

You may save the name and phone number of a commute friend.

This information is used to help WaitBuddy prepare messages that you can send to your selected commute friend.

WaitBuddy does not automatically send WhatsApp messages without your action.

When WaitBuddy opens WhatsApp with a prepared message, you must review the message and press Send yourself.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have permission to store and use another person’s contact information.

3. Voice Notes and Microphone Permission

WaitBuddy may request access to your device microphone when you choose to use the voice-note feature.

Microphone access is used only when you actively choose to record a voice note.

Voice recordings may be temporarily or locally stored on your device so that you can:

  • Play the recording
  • Re-record it
  • Delete it
  • Share it using another application

WaitBuddy does not continuously record audio in the background.

4. Notifications

WaitBuddy may request permission to send notifications.

Notifications may be used for features including:

  • Commute reminders
  • Pickup reminders
  • Post-ride check-ins
  • App-related notifications delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging

You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings.

5. Firebase Services

WaitBuddy may use Google Firebase services, including:

Firebase Analytics

Firebase Analytics may be used to understand general app usage, such as:

  • Which features are used
  • App interactions
  • App version
  • Device and operating-system information
  • Diagnostic and performance information

We use this information to improve WaitBuddy and understand how its features are being used.

Firebase Cloud Messaging

Firebase Cloud Messaging may be used to deliver notifications.

A device registration token may be generated by Firebase so notifications can be delivered to your device.

Google may process certain technical information in connection with these services according to Google’s own privacy policies.

6. Advertising and Google AdMob

WaitBuddy may display advertisements using Google AdMob.

AdMob and its technology partners may process information such as:

  • Advertising identifiers
  • Device information
  • IP address
  • Approximate location derived from network information where permitted
  • Ad impressions and interactions
  • App usage information
  • Diagnostic information

The exact information processed may depend on your device, region, consent choices, and Google’s advertising configuration.

Where required, WaitBuddy may display a Google consent form using Google’s User Messaging Platform before personalized advertising or related processing occurs.

You may be able to review or change advertising privacy choices from the App’s settings.

7. Advertising Identifier

WaitBuddy may use the Android advertising identifier through Google advertising services.

The advertising identifier may be used by AdMob and its partners for purposes such as:

  • Delivering ads
  • Measuring advertising performance
  • Preventing advertising fraud
  • Providing personalized advertising where consent and applicable law permit

You may manage advertising personalization through your Google or Android privacy settings.

8. WhatsApp and External Applications

WaitBuddy may open WhatsApp or another supported application when you choose to share a prepared message or voice note.

Once you leave WaitBuddy and use another application, that application’s privacy policy and terms apply.

WaitBuddy does not control how WhatsApp or other third-party applications process information.

9. Information Stored Locally

Many WaitBuddy settings and records are stored locally on your device, including information such as:

  • User name
  • Commute friend information
  • Pickup time
  • Reminder settings
  • Post-ride settings
  • Message templates
  • Alert history

This information is generally not uploaded to a WaitBuddy account because WaitBuddy currently does not require a user account.

10. Location Information

WaitBuddy does not currently require GPS or continuous location tracking for its core features.

The App does not provide live location tracking of you, your commute friend, or your vehicle.

Third-party advertising services may derive approximate location from information such as an IP address where permitted.

11. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

Information may be processed by service providers required for App functionality, analytics, advertising, notifications, or distribution, including services such as:

  • Google Firebase
  • Google AdMob
  • Google Play services
  • WhatsApp, when you choose to open or share content through WhatsApp

These third parties process information according to their respective privacy policies and terms.

12. Data Retention and Deletion

Information stored locally by WaitBuddy generally remains on your device until you:

  • Delete the relevant information inside the App where a deletion option is available
  • Clear WaitBuddy’s app data through Android settings
  • Uninstall WaitBuddy

For example, locally stored alert history may be cleared through features provided in the App.

Some technical, analytics, advertising, or notification-related information may be processed or retained by Google or other third-party service providers according to their own retention policies.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical measures and established Android platform features to protect information handled by WaitBuddy.

However, no application, device, internet connection, or electronic storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

You should protect access to your phone and avoid storing sensitive information in custom messages or voice notes.

14. Children’s Privacy

WaitBuddy is designed primarily for commuters and workplace transportation use and is not specifically designed or directed toward children.

We do not knowingly design the App to collect personal information from children for the purpose of creating child profiles or services.

15. Your Privacy Choices

Depending on your device and region, you may be able to:

  • Disable notification permission
  • Deny microphone permission
  • Manage advertising privacy choices
  • Reset or manage your advertising identifier
  • Delete local App data
  • Remove saved commute friend information
  • Clear alert history
  • Uninstall the App

Certain App features may not function if required permissions are disabled.

16. International Users

WaitBuddy may be available in multiple countries.

Privacy and data-protection rights may vary depending on where you live.

Where applicable, we will aim to respect rights provided under relevant privacy and data-protection laws.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when WaitBuddy features, services, third-party integrations, or legal requirements change.

When the Privacy Policy is updated, the new effective date will be shown at the top of this page.

We encourage users to review this page periodically.
